What is microcement? For starters, it’s all the rage in Europe and it is also extremely popular in South America. Though it says “cement” in the name, don’t call it “concrete!” It is not poured; it is an artisan product that is applied by hand troweling. It can deliver looks that range from very clean to demonstrating movement. It is highly durable. It is also stain, mold, and water resistant. It’s a great organization, part of HBI, that trains students from all walks of life in the wider construction industry. The program teaches needed skills and connects graduates with job opportunities. Thank you so much to everyone who attended our class, “The Right Plaster for the Right Space,” last Friday at our New Orleans artisan shop! And a special big thanks to our friends at Preservation Resource Center NOLA for asking us to do this! It was a great success – was sold out (and then some!) and it seemed people came away with practical and critical knowledge needed to better understand utilizing and spec’ing plaster and microcement in their projects.
The class was, principally, for folks in the trade – architects, designers, contractors, etc. We shared our expertise and product knowledge across a wide range of functional and decorative plasters – Venetian, Marmorino, Grassello, Tadelakt, American Clay, Microcement, and more.
